“Many of the things we need can wait. The child cannot.
Right now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, and his senses are being developed.
To him we cannot answer 'Tomorrow.' His name is 'Today.'”
- Gabriela Mistral
"Hoy, ya no se trata de conseguir que el alumno nos mire,
sino de hacer coincidir nuestros ojos con su mirada infantil"
- José Antonio Fernández Bravo

Working with children has always been a vocational impulse. I am constantly intrigued and inspired by the ways in which children perceive and experience life. I also enjoy being with children immensely - they generally sense this about me. They open themselves and, together, we open the world.
Children are Language Experts
Children are experts at acquiring and retaining languages. They learn Spanish effortlessly and with a great deal of openness and joy. Laughter is expected and encouraged.
Professional Experience Working with Children
I have worked with children in both private, tutorial settings as well as in formal classroom environments, and am experienced teaching children and youth ranging in age from 0 to 18. I taught in a bilingual (English and Spanish) classroom of children ages 3–6 at one of the oldest, private day schools in Santiago, Chile. During my time abroad, I volunteered to tutor children at orphanages in both Santiago, Chile and Cuenca, Ecuador.
I was employed as an adjunct Spanish Teacher for children grades 1–6 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Additionally, I served as Program Director for an employment and diversity program for high school students in San Francisco and served as a Youth Counselor for middle school students in Santiago, Chile.
Primary Educational Tools
To engage children in a creative and intelligent way, and to assist them with Spanish absorption, I frequently use:
- Music and poetry;
- Arts and crafts;
- Theater and puppets;
- Books and stories;
- Outdoor adventures and excursions;
- Games, and imaginative play.
