"My two sons work with Janel Moses (search her name in the Palo Alto Menlo Park Parents [PAMP] forum and you will see all the outstanding reviews of her teaching abilities) and she is one of the best teachers in the universe. Even my temperamental child looks forward to class with her and she has a wonderful ability to teach to the child's interest, understand their quirks of personality, and fill the hour they spend with her full of love."

ABOUT

Logistics
I am located in Professorville, Palo Alto, CA. I teach group, semi-private and private classes both online and in person.
Educational Background
I hold a B.A. (Summa Cum Laude) in Latin American Studies and History from Macalester College, an innovative and international liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota, and earned a post-graduate diploma from the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Chile. I am a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honors society and was a recipient of the competitive Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship.
Spanish Language Education
I speak, read, and write Spanish with native fluency. I began learning Spanish when I was six years old, was invited to participate in the Spanish AP course in high school, and completed high-level Spanish grammar and literature courses in college while earning my degree. Perhaps most importantly, I lived, worked and studied in complete Spanish immersion in Costa Rica, at the Universidad de Cuenca in Cuenca, Ecuador, and at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Chile. I have spent years learning the grammar, vocabulary, syntax and nuances of Spanish.
Professional Experience Working with Children and Youth
I am highly experienced teaching children and youth ranging in age from 0 to 18. I have been teaching and designing educational experiences in the Silicon Valley since 2009. Prior to this, I worked with children in private, tutorial settings in the U.S. and abroad, as well as in formal public and private classroom environments for an additional five years. I taught in a bilingual (English and Spanish) classroom of children ages 3–6 at one of the oldest, private day schools in Santiago, Chile and served as a youth counselor for elementary and middle school students in Santiago.
Additionally, I was employed as an adjunct Spanish Teacher for children grades 1–6 in St. Paul, Minnesota and served as Program Director for an employment and diversity program for inner city high school students at the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House in San Francisco.
During my time abroad, I worked with children at orphanages in both Santiago, Chile and Cuenca, Ecuador.
Additional Travel and Language Exposure
I have traveled in Ecuador, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Italy, Greece, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga. I lived in Herzliya, Israel for 4.5 years, attended a Hebrew Language Ulpan in Ranaana, and am conversationally fluent in Hebrew. To remember what it feels like to learn a new language, I have studied Mandarin Chinese both on my own and with a local tutor for the past several years.
Innovative Multi-Sensory Curricula
Based on years of observation and study about how language is most effectively acquired, I have built 95% of my own curricula. This pedagogical repertoire includes sixteen different and complete units of study for early childhood, four summer-long conversation courses, eight academic year curricula for elementary students, and six unique immersive academic year simulation game experiences for upper elementary and middle school. I write most of the music I sing in class.
Teaching Methodology
I have a wide range of study skills at my disposal and draw on my in-depth training in Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences to adapt my techniques to the personalities, temperaments, and learning motivations of my students. My approach is out-of-the-box and collaborative. I strive to facilitate a highly creative and comfortable learning experience. Click here for more information about my philosophy and approach.
And...
I am a spouse, a mother, a daughter and a friend. I use free time to explore music, the written word, art and design, human psychology, and fitness.
