Forward Thinking
Spanish, Future Grammar Tenses and Conversation
Tuesdays, 4:10-4:40 p.m. Middle and High School, online class
Classes begin on June 7, 2022 on Zoom and runs in June, July & August.
This class builds and strengthen students' comfort with regular and irregular verbs in two future tenses (el futuro cercano y el futuro simple.) If time and bandwidth allows, the class may also cover the future perfect.
While this class has a grammatical, structural focus, we will also work on speaking and writing about the future, using compelling imagery and creative prompts to elicit responses.
Students should have an established level of comfort conjugating verbs in the present tense.

Spanish Conversation, Ethics & Situational Problem Solving
Tuesdays, 5:25-5:55 p.m. (11-16 years) online class
Classes begin on June 7, 2022 and runs in June, July & August.
Conducted entirely in Spanish, this class is designed to foster lively conversation as we analyze and strategize responses to real and imagined ethical dilemmas or preposterous and impossible situations. We will explore topics with known, predictable outcomes and ambiguous situations in which consequences need to be intuited, projected or imagined. To stretch and build vocabulary, each week's dilemma will intersect with a wide range of contexts (social, familial, business, health, political, internet, etc.)

Biomimetismo - Biomimicry
Spanish, Design Thinking, Art, and the Natural World
Thursdays, 4:35 pm., in person, Palo Alto, CA, ages (8-13)
Class begins on June 9, 2022 and runs in June, July & August.
Pigeons inspired the Wright Brothers to attempt flight. Burs, spiders, silk worms and beetles sparked textile innovation, termite hills and bees hives prompt architects to consider new patterns and structures, the study of whale flippers has helped improve the construction of wind turbines, and the shape of the King Fisher's beak solved a noise problem in high-speed trains. This class looks at examples of art, architecture and engineering that have been directly influenced by observation of the natural world. Students will learn practical vocabulary (nouns, adjectives and verbs), while studying the ways in which nature informs and inspires innovation.
2D and 3D Building/Art in Spanish
Drawing inspiration from nature and our studies of biomimicry, in each class we will make art or engage in design thinking of our own. I place a heavy emphasis on open-ended creative experimentation and ask students to fully embrace the ever-present reality of mistake-making in the creative process.
