A review of the "sh" blended phoneme: This is mostly comic relief but also a motivational set-up for the below writing exercise... Children can use this to write about something that is easy to share and something that is not easy to share...  In this video I read a never-seen-before slideshow about sharing failures and successes (and a covert invitation to do some self-reflection about struggles with generosity.).

   Take a look at these with your child to help expand his or her vocabulary and reading repertoire. They are intended to specifically help visual learners (who actually enjoy learning words inside of shapes.) The final word, bare, is meant to serve as a visual for a brief discussion about how one word, spelled the same way, can mean different things.    The last image is to help build this awareness: Some words sound the same (homophones) but are spelled differently and mean very different things...like bear and bare...these words can be VERY fun to play with:  Writing practice for those so inclined...  
    To use the below, choose one letter (or pair of letters) and write it in a blank below. Then trace "ace"...then read it to figure out what word has been created.  These are for helping with writing the target letters this week, lower case e can be tricky.     A food log...according to the alphabet. Can you or did you eat foods for the below letters? See how many letters you can fill up with a food you ate. And please, please tell me: Is it possible to eat something that starts with Z?

Here are couple of videos to help bridge the distance and hopefully get the kids to laugh: The kids have been working at three different levels in class, so here are a couple of different challenges to try:   If you suspect that getting your child(ren) to sit down and practice writing might be challenging, you might try telling them (as I often do in class) that this is their "ticket" to pay for 15 minutes of ball play (or whatever "paid" event you suspect will be enticing) with you out in the yard. When they have completed their work, pretend to be a ticket-taker and ask to see the "ticket" in a dramatic way before heading outdoors... Maybe this over-the-top visual propaganda from me will help with the cause?  Two different levels here and you can download both of the documents, links below the photos. If you can't easily get compliance, don't force it!
